An Evening With Author Ilyasah Shabazz
August 24th | 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Mid-Michigan Idlewilders Event Center, 19 Joy, Idlewild, MI 49642

Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X, is an award-winning author, educator, and producer. She has authored five historical novels and is co-chairperson of the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center. Her work is devoted to helping others find inner strength and purpose. While she is frequently asked to speak about the legacy of Malcolm X, she shares that it is her mother, Dr. Betty Shabazz’s wisdom, courage, and compassion that guide her.

Through stories forged by the memory of her parents’ love and the meaning of their cause, she has recorded her journey in an unforgettable memoir: Growing Up X. On August 24, Ilyasah will talk about her book and carrying on the legacy of her parents, and host a Q&A. Copies of Growing Up X will be available for purchase with a book signing following the event.

The event is held in partnership with Lake County Community Foundation, Pathfinder Community Library, and the Mid-Michigan Idlewilders Event Center.
