Engaging youth in philanthropy
The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of the Community Foundation is comprised of high school students representing Fremont, Grant, Hesperia, Newaygo, and White Cloud public high schools and the homeschooling community. Each school has representation from each grade 9-12.
YAC members—casually known as “YACers”—advise the board on issues regarding area youth and evaluate YAC grant applications. Students meet at the Community Foundation once a month to learn about philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, prepare for grant review, develop leadership skills, and have fun!
Since our YAC began in 1994, more than 220 youth have served on the committee and they have granted more than $1.3 million to address the needs of local youth. Visit our YAC grant page to learn more about YAC’s funding priorities and how to apply for a grant. Applications are due on March 1 each year.
Interested in joining YAC?
YAC is looking for responsible students with leadership potential, positive attitudes, and a desire to be part of a team.
We currently have openings for up to two new representatives from each school: one 9th grader and one student who can be in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade this year.
Applications are being accepted through September 29. To learn more and apply, click here.
