Applying for a scholarship at Fremont Area Community Foundation is easy!

All scholarships are possible thanks to the generosity of local individuals, families, and organizations and their passion for education in our community.

Here’s how to apply:

High school students

By completing our general scholarship application, you will be considered for over 100 scholarships. The online application system is also used for scholarships from Lake, Mecosta, and Osceola county community foundations. You will need the following information to complete your online application:

  • Your cumulative GPA, class size, and class rank (class size and rank can be estimated)
  • A list of your academic or extracurricular activities since ninth grade
  • Your SAT score
  • A 400-word (2,500 character) essay addressing your goals, activities, accomplishments, and more (details can be found in the application).
  • Your employment history

Application open from January 1 to March 1.

Current college students

Several scholarships are available for current college students. Eligible students meet one of the following criteria:

  • Current college/university students who attended a high school or homeschool in Newaygo County, Mecosta County, or Osceola County
  • Current college/university students residing in Newaygo County, Mecosta County, or Osceola County
  • Current students of Ferris State University

You will need the following items to complete your online application:

  • Your most recent GPA and transcript
  • Your Student Aid Index (SAI) from your FAFSA and a list of other scholarships you have received
  • Two essays: Explain your choice of major/career and how you became interested in it, and share your plans as you move into the workforce after graduation.

Application open from January 1 to March 1.

Medical school students

We offer a two-year scholarship for Newaygo County residents or graduates of a Newaygo County high school who have been accepted into an accredited medical school. You will need the following items to complete your online application:

  • Your most recent GPA and transcript
  • Your Student Aid Index (SAI) from your FAFSA and a list of other scholarships you have received

Application open from January 1 to March 1.

Adult students

The Community Foundation offers scholarships—many for up to two years—to adult students residing in Newaygo County. We define adult students as individuals who have been out of high school for at least two years and/or have a gap in their post-secondary education. You will need the following items to complete your online application:

  • Your employment history
  • Your educational history
  • Your aspirations for education, career path, and the future

Applications will be approved or denied by the last day of the month following submission. For example, if your application is submitted in January, it will be approved/denied by the last day in February.

The application for adult students is open year-round.

Going directly into the workforce?

  • Students in this group live in or attend a high school in Newaygo County
  • We offer the following scholarships to students going directly into the workforce after high school:
    • The Hair Station Scholarship Fund will be awarded to students working towards their cosmetology state certification at Newaygo County Career-Tech Center. Application open January 1 to March 1.
    • The Cathy and Larry Kissinger Fund will reimburse students for eligible academic and career expenses. For example: the purchase of field-specific footwear and/or uniforms, tools, and state certification fees. Application open year-round. Apply now
