Slautterback Legacy Society

Honoring the legacy of a woman who helped shape the Community Foundation’s history.

Bessie Slautterback was a special education teacher in Fremont. In 1951, a well-known attorney named William J. Branstrom organized several charitable trusts to form the Fremont Foundation and appointed Bessie as Executive Secretary. She was the first employee of the Foundation, serving in this role for 21 years. Over two decades, Bessie led the work of the Foundation in education, health, housing, and the arts.

To honor the legacy of giving Bessie Slautterback left behind, the Community Foundation created the Slautterback Legacy Society.
