Youth Advisory Committee

Engaging youth in philanthropy

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of Fremont Area Community Foundation is comprised of more than 20 high school students representing Fremont, Grant, Hesperia, Newaygo, and White Cloud public high schools as well as the homeschooling community. Each school will typically have one student representing each grade 9-12 (for a total of four students).

YAC members—casually known as “YACers”—advise the Board on issues regarding area youth and evaluate YAC grant applications. Students meet at the Community Foundation once a month to work as a team, develop leadership skills, and have fun!

YACers work in four major areas to empower youth and improve the Newaygo County community:

  • Community service
Participate in local community service activities
  • Fund development
Raise contributions for the Community Foundation’s Youth Endowment Fund
  • Grantmaking
Review grant requests for area youth programs and make recommendations to the Board on programs that best support youth
  • Public relations
Increase awareness of YAC through various communications
Are YOU ready to join YAC?

Each spring, YAC recruits eighth graders who will be attending a Newaygo County high school or homeschool, have leadership potential, and want to make a difference in their community. Applications are typically available March-May.
